Recreation / Therapy Lead – Pinecrest – Kenora, ON

Full-Time 80 hours/Pay Period – $57,787.20-64,459.20

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Program Service Supervisor

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Degree in Kinesiology, Recreation Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Therapeutic Recreation Diploma with at least one year of experience in a health care setting. Must be able to effectively encourage and motivate residents and personnel with restorative care programs and recreational activities. Ability to communicate effectively with Residents, their families and health care workers regarding the resident’s recreation and therapeutic health needs. Ability to work with minimum supervision is essential and leads the daily activities of the Recreation / Therapy Aides.

JOB SUMMARY

To develop, implement, and evaluate recreational activities that suit the needs of all residents. Ensure that each program provides the potential to increase and/or maintain the residents’ overall well-being and quality of life.

JOB DUTIES

A. Recreation / Therapy Services

a) Carries out instructions of professional therapists: occupational, speech or physiotherapists following their assessment and treatment of a Resident by medical referral.
b) Develops a maintenance / progressive program for each referred individual and reports to supervisor, therapist and/or care team regarding observations of Residents’ abilities and needs and of progress or regression.
c) Provides group activities based on Residents’ interests and levels of capability, e.g., by social interaction, topic-oriented discussions, language stimulation, fitness programs, and special interests projects … baking, group craft projects, gardening, etc.
d) Spends one to one time with residents
e) Promote interaction, group identity, feelings of usefulness and self-esteem.
f) Attend Resident Care Planning conferences and participates in multi-disciplinary care team meetings to discuss Resident response to programs, new admissions, special problems, new goals, etc.
g) Attends and participates in Resident Council meetings as needed
h) Develops and leads recreation activities in the Home and monitors ongoing effectiveness for the residents, including program evaluations.
i) Develops new programs in response to resident needs.
j) Responsible for maintaining a clean work area.


B. EDUCATION, HEALTH & SAFETY

a) Attends meetings and educational programs as required.
b) Complies with Infection control policies and procedures.
c) Complies with Fire and Safety Regulations and attains proficiency in the method of sounding fire alarms, fire evacuation procedures, proper use of fire extinguishing equipment and other procedures designed to ensure the security and protection of Residents of the Home.
d) Works in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health & Safety Act to maintain a safe working environment.
e) Reports accidents and/or safety concerns to supervisor immediately.
f) Encourages the practice and adherence to safety standards in the workplace.

C. OTHER

a) Liaises with various community organizations
b) Liaises with Kenora are schools and co-ordinates inter-generational programming (day-care, elementary and secondary schools)
c) Requests supplies and equipment, as necessary.
d) Maintains resident’s program attendance records and progress notes.
e) Reports regularly to the supervisor regarding all aspects of the service as required.
f) Performs other job related duties as assigned by supervisor.
