Regional Palliative Volunteer Coordinator – Full-time KENORA

Under the supervision of the Director of Community Support Services, the non-union Regional Palliative Volunteer Coordinator will be based in Kenora and coordinate Visiting Hospice/Friendly Visiting Services throughout the District as an integral part of the Community Support Services team. Consideration may be given to working remotely within the district for the right candidate. Visiting Hospice Services (VHS) trains and connects volunteers with seniors, individuals living with chronic illness, and their caregivers. Volunteers provide comfort, companionship, and meaningful connection in the client’s home or in community, while also offering much-needed respite and reassurance to caregivers and families.
Training and mentorship for this role is provided. The successful applicant must have a reliable vehicle and be comfortable and available to travel within the region to support the Visiting Hospice Program volunteers. This includes recruitment and training of volunteers as well as providing information and education to community partners throughout the region. This position plays an important role in strengthening compassionate community care by helping volunteers make a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors, clients, and families during vulnerable times. Applicants must communicate clearly, demonstrate passion and enthusiasm for the role, have hands-on marketing knowledge, and be comfortable and well versed with computers and social media. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
The successful applicant will have a general knowledge of the healthcare system and the obstacles faced in our district, with relevant experience working with seniors, caregivers, families, and community partners. The role requires someone who understands the value of dignity, companionship, and support for older adults and those living with chronic illness. All training for the successful execution of this position will be provided and continuing education encouraged. A post-secondary education in Business Administration, Marketing, Public Relations or a complementary field would be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruit and train volunteers throughout the district
- Connect communities with volunteers in their area
- Educate and inform communities on services available through Visiting Hospice Services
- Market and promote VHS in community and with our community partners
- Travel throughout the district to fulfill mandate and support the district
- Active member of the local and regional Palliative Committees
- Organize and host learning opportunities via web conferences or in person
