JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Individuals must have a post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university; or are enrolled in a community college or university in a diploma or degree program in such a field. Must have current Smart Serve Certification. Must have a positive attitude and the ability to be flexible and the ability to work with minimum supervision is essential. Must be able to communicate effectively with Residents, their families and volunteers.

JOB DUTIES
A. RESIDENT CARE
. Provides group activities based on Residents’ interests and levels of capabilities, e.g., by social interaction, topic-oriented discussions, and special interest projects, baking, group craft projects, gardening, etc.
. Promotes interaction, group identity, feelings of usefulness and self-esteem.
. Assists Residents to and from programmed activities as necessary.
. Provides activities to individual Residents, based on their interests, capabilities and identified needs.
. Completes required documentation promptly and accurately.
. Responsible for maintaining a clean work area.
B. EDUCATION, HEALTH & SAFETY
. Attends meetings and educational programs as required.
. Complies with infection control policies and procedures.
. Complies with Fire and Safety Regulations and attains proficiency in the method of sounding fire alarms, fire evacuation procedures, proper use of fire extinguishing equipment and other procedures designed to ensure the security and protection of the Residents of the Home.
. Works in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act to maintain a safe working environment.
. Reports accidents and/or safety concerns to supervisor immediately.
C. OTHER
. Requests supplies and equipment as necessary.
. Maintains attendance records.
. Reports regularly to the supervisor regarding all aspects of the service as required.
. Performs other job related duties as assigned by supervisor.
