Recreation / Therapy Lead

Wage Range: $27.87 – $32.80 per hour

The District of Kenora Home for the Aged is seeking a passionate and energetic Recreation / Therapy Lead to join our team at Princess Court in Dryden, Ontario.

As the Recreation / Therapy Lead, you will play a key role in enhancing the quality of life of our residents by developing, implementing, and evaluating meaningful recreation and therapeutic programs that support physical, emotional, social, and cognitive well-being. Working collaboratively with residents, families, staff, volunteers, and community partners, you will help create a vibrant and engaging environment where residents can thrive.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and support the daily activities of the Recreation Team.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate recreation and therapeutic programs that reflect residents’ interests, abilities, and goals.
  • Facilitate both group and individual programming including fitness, social, creative, educational, and leisure activities.
  • Monitor resident participation and document progress, observations, and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff, therapists, care teams, families, and community organizations.
  • Participate in resident care conferences and contribute to care planning.
  • Coordinate intergenerational and community-based programming opportunities.
  • Maintain attendance records, progress notes, and required MDS/RAI documentation.
  • Promote resident engagement, independence, dignity, and quality of life.
  • Foster a positive, fun, and welcoming environment for residents, families, volunteers, and staff.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in:
    • Recreation and Leisure Studies
    • Therapeutic Recreation
    • Kinesiology
    • Or a related field
  • Experience working with seniors and/or in a long-term care setting is considered an asset.
  • Current Smart Serve Certification.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting and mentoring Recreation Aides.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and engage residents through meaningful activities.
  • Commitment to person-centred care and resident well-being.
