The District of Kenora Home for the Aged is seeking a passionate and energetic Recreation / Therapy Lead to join our team at Princess Court in Dryden, Ontario.
As the Recreation / Therapy Lead, you will play a key role in enhancing the quality of life of our residents by developing, implementing, and evaluating meaningful recreation and therapeutic programs that support physical, emotional, social, and cognitive well-being. Working collaboratively with residents, families, staff, volunteers, and community partners, you will help create a vibrant and engaging environment where residents can thrive.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and support the daily activities of the Recreation Team.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate recreation and therapeutic programs that reflect residents’ interests, abilities, and goals.
- Facilitate both group and individual programming including fitness, social, creative, educational, and leisure activities.
- Monitor resident participation and document progress, observations, and outcomes.
- Collaborate with nursing staff, therapists, care teams, families, and community organizations.
- Participate in resident care conferences and contribute to care planning.
- Coordinate intergenerational and community-based programming opportunities.
- Maintain attendance records, progress notes, and required MDS/RAI documentation.
- Promote resident engagement, independence, dignity, and quality of life.
- Foster a positive, fun, and welcoming environment for residents, families, volunteers, and staff.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in:
- Recreation and Leisure Studies
- Therapeutic Recreation
- Kinesiology
- Or a related field
- Experience working with seniors and/or in a long-term care setting is considered an asset.
- Current Smart Serve Certification.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while supporting and mentoring Recreation Aides.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and engage residents through meaningful activities.
- Commitment to person-centred care and resident well-being.
